The Bradman Digital Library went live on 27 September 2001.
The site contains material from a previous website Bradman the legend which was prepared by Empire Ridge, and which won a Silver Award in the 1997 Adelaide Art Director's Club annual awards in the category of advertising, promotion, publishing or design. This website was created to give worldwide access to the Bradman Collection held in the State Library of South Australia.
An exhibition to permanently house and display the Bradman Collection was opened by the Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable John Howard on 29 January 1998. In 2007 negotiations with the Libraries Board of South Australia, the Bradman family and the SA Government resulted in the Libraries Board agreeing to loan a selection of Bradman collection items to the Adelaide Oval. The South Australian Cricket Association, with Government support, is planning to open a dedicated cricketing museum at the Oval in the near future.
Following the death of Sir Donald on 25 February 2001 the Bradman the legend website was re-developed as the Bradman Digital Library with the inclusion of new material, including digital images of around 800 pages from the 52 volumes of the Bradman scrapbooks.
