CANTON departed London and Plymouth in April 1838
under the command of Captain J. Mordaunt
arriving Adelaide on May 2nd, 1838 with 143 Passengers (83 Adults, 60 Children)

On 18 May 1838, The Colonial Register printed a letter of thanks to Captain Mordaunt on behalf of the passengers.

To the editors of the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN GAZETTE,
GENTLEMEN, If you can spare room in the columns of the newspaper, will you kindly insert the accompanying letters, and oblige,
