EMERALD ISLE was chartered by the Australian Association of Bengal. She departed from Calcutta via Mauritius,
and arrived at Pt Adelaide on July 24, 1838 with Passengers - 11 adults and 11 children)



SA REGISTER reported:
John and Edward GLEESON and John DONNITHORNE intended settling in South Australia, and brought large amounts of capital to help achieve this.
John DONNITHORNE also landed three very fine mares "which he intends to leave with the colony for some time".
