The publishers of South Australian newspapers sent special reporters to each ship arriving in South Australia to list the passengers on board that ship from the Passenger List held by the Captain. The reporter's list was published in the next publication of the newspaper. More often than not, these published lists are the only source available of a passenger list for a particular ship. Where possible, we have compared these list with photocopies of the actual passenger list. Microfilms of these newspapers are held in State Libraries across Australia.

DISCLAIMER
Quite a number of Ship Manifests are held at the State Library of South Australia and at the South Australia Archives (State Records of South Australia). Regarding my request to "make these records available at the State Library and on my CDs", Kathy Gargett, SA State Records ReferenceAccess, referred me to the Administration Manager of Corporate Services, Department of Trade and Economic Development, Adelaide, South Australia.
The Administration Manager, Nathan Hissen, emailed me on Fri, Aug 13, 2010 12:35 pm - In our recent telephone conversation, I made a commitment to you to find a resolution regarding the granting of permission for you to publish records relating to the Africaine. I consider records of this nature are definitely in the public's best interest to be widely available and therefore if permission is still necessary, then consider it granted.
On August 19th 2010 I discussed with this gentleman the possible extension of this permission to include records relating to Ship Manifests held at SRSA being made widely available, eg. at the State Library of South Australia and on my CDs. He replied "then consider it granted".
