State Library of South Australia

Accessing hard copy journals

Some recent issues of journals (South Australian, national and international) are kept in the Periodicals Area on Level 1, Spence Wing and can be photocopied.

The Library also holds back-issues of many newspapers that have ceased publication, or are no longer received for various reasons.

Titles from our South Australiana and Rare Books Collections are held in storage and are read in the Somerville Reading Room, and may only be copied with permission, through the Library's Copy Centre. Find these titles through the Library catalogue.

Other hard copy journals held in storage, are also accessed through the Library catalogue and are for use anywhere on Level 1, Spence Wing.

The older hardcopy issues are in storage on-or-offsite and must be retrieved. This can take between one hour to four days, depending on time of request and location of the newspaper, so it is best to telephone in advance on (08) 8207 7250 to request issues to be retrieved.
