Papyrus, parchment and paper: from the Rare Books of the State Library

The State Library's Rare Books Collection is a treasure trove of beauty, artistry and skill. From our glorious 13th century Antiphonal illuminated in gold, books of hours from the 14th and 15th centuries and leaves from an Armenian Bible from the 9th century, to the beautiful works of William Morris and his Kelmscott Press of the late 1800s, this is your chance to come face to face with some of our state's most beautiful treasures.

Other highlights include recently acquired leaves from a 1508 French book of hours illustrated by Phillipe Pigouchet, a beautiful Venetian binding from 1578, and a third-century fragment of papyrus from Egypt.

Rarely on public display, come and explore the treasures of the State Library.
