Beginner’s guide to State Library eResources - Go Digi Adelaide Pop Up Festival

Date: 10 October 2016

In September, our Community Learning Team delivered the first sessions of their adult digital literacy program A Beginner's Guide to State Library eResources. This program aims to help adults develop their skills so that they can use the Library's catalogue, eResources and digital collections. The program was also part of the Go Digi Adelaide Pop Up Festival.

Four booked out sessions were held in our new Dr Bronwyn Halliday Learning Studio (located at the back of the Hub, ground floor of the Spence Wing). Attendees were invited to bring their own mobile devices or use the Library's iPads.

Each session had a waiting list, so when a spot become available one morning a lady from Moonta sprang into action. She gulped down her Weetbix, jumped in the car and drove to the library!

Due to the success and high demand, we are developing a program of ongoing events, so watch this space!

Despite some minor technical hiccups we received positive feedback and many requests for more digital and information literacy programs. Feedback from participants included:

"We thought it was great. We enjoyed the presentation, and the presenters were informative and interesting, nothing to improve really."

"The presenters (Stamos and Karen) were excellent. I learnt so much in an hour and I'm eager to put it into practice. I've joined the library now and have also booked in for a Genealogy Gem next week. Thanks so much for the opportunity to attend. I'll highly recommend this session to friends if I see it advertised again."

"The State Library is such a wonderful asset for the population. It's important to know what the library has to offer, so thanks for running this informative session. We've been visiting the state's libraries since we were children, starting with the children's library in the old buildings at the back. [For] two library lovers it was excellent!"
