Designed for students in reception to year 2

Learning programs at the State Library are designed to be linked to key learning outcomes and complement the current Australian Curriculum. These programs have been created to connect learners with the rich history, collections, spaces and exhibitions of the State Library of South Australia.

Students will discover the stories of South Australia and the role of the State Library in collecting, preserving and sharing the history of South Australia and develop important life skills or research, inquiry and analysis techniques using a variety of sources.

My History [opportunity 2]

Time: 10am or 12.30

Location: Meet in the forecourt under plane tree

Note: Free, bookings essential

My History is a program that engages learners in examining their personal and family history. This program is facilitated by a Community Learning Educator.

Suitability: Reception to Yr 3
2 hours
Monday - Friday (morning or afternoon sessions)
Class of 30 students maximum

Welcome to YOUR State Library [opportunity 3]

Location: Meet in the State Library forecourt

Note: Free, bookings essential

A Guided Experience Orientation to the State Library for student groups. Facilitated by experienced State Library volunteers.

Suitability: years Reception to 7
Cost: Free
Duration: 75 minutes. 10am
Capacity: class of 30 students maximum
Supervision: 1:6
Days: Thursdays | 10am or 12pm
Facilitator: Experienced Community Learning Volunteer

Learning opportunities explained

Each learning opportunity offered, stands alone. We are offering several different opportunities but they are not a series.

  • Opportunity 1: Introduces groups of students to a range of State Library resources with a focus on specific curriculum subjects.
  • Opportunity 2: Designed to engage learners with the roles, stories and collections of the State Library. These programs are aligned to ACARA and the Teaching for Effective Learning Framework.
  • Opportunity 3: Guided experiences are designed to introduce groups of students to specific aspects throughout the library.
  • Opportunity 4: Unlock the past and discover the future with one of the State Library of South Australia's new Digital literacy programs

What to bring

Bring all food and drink in a group crate.

Medication may be carried by the adult supervisor in a backpack.

School bags

Preferred option is to leave school bags at school.

If it is necessary for students to bring their bags they will be required to leave these with Security staff for the duration of their program.
