Students engaging in Community Learning programs at the State Library

History is made up of many stories. The My History program has been developed to engage children in examining their own personal stories and histories. During the program they will explore the State Library to uncover ways that the collection holds memories. The children will create take-home memory box to capture their own unique stories.

Suitability: Reception to year 2
Days: Monday to Friday
up to 30 students

  • What is my personal story?
  • How is my story the same and different from others?
  • What people, events, activities and places do i care about?
  • Why?

Teaching for Effective Learning principles strongly underpin this learning experience, which is aligned with the Australian Curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the learning area of:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences: History and Geography and the general capabilities of literacy, intercultural understanding and creative thinking.

Tools and materials are provided free of charge by the State Library of South Australia.
