Explore-a-story [opportunity 2]

Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm

Location: Meet in State LIbrary forecourt

Learners will pop on an explorer vest and discover the treasures, stories and spaces of the State Library, developing their noticing skills and using their senses to explore. The visit concludes in the beautiful Mortlock Chamber sharing works by South Australian authors and illustrators. This program is sensory-friendly. Designed and facilitated by an experienced early years teacher.

Suitability: Kindy to year 2
Duration: 2 hours
Capacity: up to 30 students
Supervision: 1:4 (Kindy) 1:5 (Reception to year 2)
Days: Mondays | Tuesdays
Facilitator: experienced early years Teacher

Key inquiry questions

  • How can stories of the past be shared?
  • How is the past different from the present?
  • How is the past the same as the present?

The learning experiences are aligned with the Early Years Framework and the Australian Curriculum, with a particular emphasis on the learning area of Humanities and Social Sciences: History and the general capabilities of literacy, intercultural understanding and creative thinking. Teaching for Effective Learning principles strongly underpin the learning design.

Elements of this program have been co-designed with children, for children, to provide relevant learning experiences that effectively engage young learners. This program is sensory-friendly.

All tools and materials will be provided by the State Library of South Australia free of charge.
