Mortlock Wing of the State Library of South Australia

Explore the different spaces of the Library and discover the range of materials the Library collects.

Suitability: years 3 to 7

Facilitator: Education Librarian

A highlight is the behind-the-scenes tour of the basement where learners will view historic maps, 19th century handwritten letters and old issues of school magazines. Explore the Mortlock Wing and its exhibits of South Australian historical material, while the mezzanine floor with its hands-on- collection of old books is a popular backdrop for a group photograph. The Treasures Wall presents an opportunity for students to reflect on the natural resources that have shaped the State.

Options: this program is also offered in a modified form:

  • Resources for English as a second Language students, including English Language Learning Improvement Service (ELLIS) or,
  • Discover Family History services and resources.
