Designed for students in senior school

Learning programs at the State Library are designed to be linked to key learning outcomes and complement the current Australian Curriculum. These programs have been created to connect learners with the rich history, collections, spaces and exhibitions of the State Library of South Australia.

Students will discover the stories of South Australia and the role of the State Library in collecting, preserving and sharing the history of South Australia and develop important life skills or research, inquiry and analysis techniques using a variety of sources.

Discover the State Library-Secondary [opportunity 3]

Date: 29 January 2019 to 12 April 2019

Time: 10 to 11.30am

Location: Meet in the ground floor glass foyer

Note: Free, bookings essential, school groups

The program will introduce students to the State Library's services, resources and collections. It will include a tour of Mortlock Wing (where possible), a demonstration of the library';s on-line catalogue and, if requested, alert them to our databases. A walk around the library will familiarise learners with the spaces and layout and will include a focus on any area or service you highlight when you book.

Researching History [opportunity 1]

Learners  are given professional tips on historical research using primary and secondary sources and home access eResources.

The Research Project and State Library Resources [opportunity 1]

Learning opportunities explained

Each learning opportunity offered, stands alone. We are offering several different opportunities but they are not a series.

  • Opportunity 1: Introduces groups of students to a range of State Library resources with a focus on specific curriculum subjects.
  • Opportunity 2: Designed to engage learners with the roles, stories and collections of the State Library. These programs are aligned to ACARA and the Teaching for Effective Learning Framework.
  • Opportunity 3: Guided tours designed to introduce groups of students to specific aspects throughout the library.
  • Opportunity 4: Unlock the past and discover the future through dramatic re-enactments.

School bags

Preferred option is to leave school bags at school.

If it is necessary for students to bring their bags they will be required to leave these with Security staff for the duration of their program.
