Designed for students in tertiary education

Learning programs at the State Library are designed to be linked to key learning outcomes and complement the current Australian Curriculum. These programs have been created to connect learners with the rich history, collections, spaces and exhibitions of the State Library of South Australia.

Students will discover the stories of South Australia and the role of the State Library in collecting, preserving and sharing the history of South Australia and develop important life skills or research, inquiry and analysis techniques using a variety of sources.

Capacity: Class of 30 students maximum

State Library Resources & the Research Project [opportunity 1]

Time: 10am

Location: Meet in the ground floor glass foyer

Note: Free, but bookings essential

The State Library has a range of resources both online and hard-copy that can support students with research projects. This session introduces students to these resources and how to access them.

Suitability: years 10 to 12
Duration: up to 90 minutes
Days: Monday - Friday
Capacity: class of 30 students maximum
Supervision: 1:15
Facilitator: Education Librarian

Learning opportunities explained

Each learning opportunity offered, stands alone. We are offering several different opportunities but they are not a series.

  • Opportunity 1: Introduces groups of students to a range of State Library resources with a focus on specific curriculum subjects.
  • Opportunity 2: Designed to engage learners with the roles, stories and collections of the State Library. These programs are aligned to ACARA and the Teaching for Effective Learning Framework.
  • Opportunity 3: Guided experiences are designed to introduce groups of students to specific aspects throughout the library.
  • Opportunity 4: Unlock the past and discover the future with one of the State Library of South Australia's new Digital literacy programs

School bags

Preferred option is to leave school bags at school.

If it is necessary for students to bring their bags they will be required to leave these with Security staff for the duration of their program.

Why register for a State Library card?

You or your students might be interested in our home access to eResources, booking computers, printing, accessing collection items and much more.

Register for State Library SA library card online few days prior to your visit you will be able to collect the card on your day of visit. Make sure when registering that the Students add their school name and postal address as their secondary address (un-tick the "This is also my postal address").

This will allow us to have the cards ready upon your school groups arrival or we can post them to the school if they register too late to collect their card.
