The State Library has a selection of free tours available which are outlined in an illustrated brochure. All tours are subject to ambassador availability. Bookings are required for all tours during May.

Daily tours

General tours are offered every weekday (excluding public holidays) at 11am or 2pm. Bookings are required for all tours during May. Meet a friendly ambassador opposite the cloaking desk on Level 1, Spence Wing.

Booked group tours

Pre-book a group tour for any time between 10.30am and 3pm (with a minimum of two weeks' notice). Choose from the twelve tours listed in the 'Your Choice' Program.

Primary school visits

Tours are offered to groups of primary students highlighting information, treasures and history and can be tailored to suit particular interest areas. Tours with a curriculum focus for primary students are covered below under Education Tours. Please allow a minimum of two weeks' notice for bookings.

Education tours

Tours are offered to groups of primary, secondary, tertiary and TAFE students, and we can tailor a tour to suit your particular subject needs or areas of interest. Tours cover library services, explaining how to use the catalogues, demonstrating online databases, showing students how to access material in microfilm/fiche format, and how to access primary resources onsite and online. Please allow two weeks notice for tour bookings. Please look at the library guide For students and teachers before making a booking.
