Finding fashion

Tuesday 10 October

South Australians have had a love affair with fashion since the early days of the colony. The State Library has a fabulous collection of historic photographs, artworks, design drawings, carte-de-visites, newspapers, magazines and archival documents that help to research our fashion heritage.

Join Librarian Carolyn Spooner for a slideshow of stunning images and extracts from Library collections. Highlights include: Thelma Afford's 1936 centenary costume designs and fashion pages from South Australian homes and gardens magazine from 1929 to 1953.

Fashion in the Age of the Internet

Wednesday 11 October

The internet and social media have undoubtedly changed the fashion industry. Adjunct Fashion Lecturer for Flinders University and TAFE SA, Lucy Weate, will talk about how Instagram and Snapchat are influencing online purchases, what fashion retail will look like in the future and creativity in the age of the internet.

Suitable for all ages.

A head for fashion

Thursday 12 October

Come on a fascinating millinery journey looking at materials and styles of yesteryear and today, the materials used and how little techniques have changed.

Presented by Lorraine Gill, TAFE SA Lecturer, who is well known for her Melbourne Cup hats and judges the Millinery Section at the Royal Adelaide Show. See a selection of Lorraine's designs. We encourage you to wear or bring your favourite hat.
