Discover how important hats were to signify status and roles and who wore hats at various points in history. Then design and decorate a hat that you might wear for a special occasion.

Be inspired by a guided tour of the State Library Gallery's current exhibition: One mountain, one river, one sage: Treasures from the Shandong Library and view images of Emperors.

Children will then proceed to the level 1 of the Spence Wing to view images of the First Colonists and then to the Centre of Democracy to view images of current and past people who shaped our democracy.

The second part of the program will be to design and decorate your own hat.
