State Library of South Australia

Bags in library

Customers of the State Library are welcome to bring bags into the following areas:

  • Institute Building
  • Mortlock Wing
  • Spence Wing ground level
  • Spence Wing foyer on level 1.

However, customers to the services and collections area on level 1 of the Spence Wing are asked to leave certain bags at the Security/Cloak Room for the protection and security of collections.

All customers with bags who wish to enter the main collection area through the security gates, are asked to present their bags to staff at the Security/Cloak Room. Security staff will determine if a bag should be left in the Cloak Room. For example:

  • any bag greater than 35 cm by 30 cm is to be left in the Cloak Room
  • smaller bags may be required to be left in the Cloak Room at the discretion of Security staff
  • customers are welcome to leave smaller bags or other belongings in the Cloak Room, but Security staff are unable to take responsibility for personal items and valuables.

Customers will be issued with a ticket on receipt of bags or other items, and on presentation of the ticket property will be returned. Customers are encouraged to keep their ticket in a secure place, because the Library is unable to take responsibility for property claimed for that ticket by a person who is not the owner.
