The awards keep rolling in for the State Library. Once again we've landed ourselves on 'a most beautiful libraries list', while the restoration of our historic Institute Building has also been recognised.

The Australian Civic Trust 2015 Awards and Brickbats have been announced. We were delighted to receive a merit award in the Urban Category for the conservation of our beautiful Institute Building. The work was completed earlier this year. When discussing the conservation work, the Australian Civic Trust comments:

"The attention to detail, colour scheme and quality of finish is exquisite and all those involved deserve a feeling of immense pride that their labours have resulted in such a wonderful outcome: a highlight of the North Terrace cultural boulevard." (Australian Civic Trust, 2015, Civic Review 2015 Awards and Brickbats)

The State Library was also named as one of the 50 most beautiful public libraries in the world in a recent article on About Great Books. Typically recognised for the beauty of our magnificent Mortlock Library, this listing is different.

The Library has been selected, in part, for our spectacular glass foyer and Treasures Wall area that showcases some of our most impressive collections. For example, our current Treasures Wall exhibition, A theatre inside the book, showcases paper engineering from our collections.

The editors of the article researched hundreds of libraries worldwide to find the most awe-inspiring. Other factors also considered in the selection included innovative design, sustainability and historical or architectural significance.

Some of the other libraries keeping the State Library company on the list include Stuttgart City Library (Germany), Boston Public Library (USA), Vancouver Central Library (Canada), Jose Vasconcelos Library (Mexico), National Library of France and National Library of St. Mark's (Italy).

Read the article to find out more about the other 49 most beautiful public libraries in the world.

So why not come and see for yourself why we are an award winning institution, we'd love to see you.
