Librarians will take you through the beautiful Mortlock and Institute buildings as well as our state of the art storage area that houses some of the state's most important treasures. Learn what goes on behind the scenes at one of South Australia's great institutions.
And you can ask questions – we’re librarians after all! Families welcome.

To keep our staff and customers safe we will continue to follow the physical distancing, building capacity limits and increased hygiene practises outlined by the State Government in their roadmap to recovery. When entering the library please make sure you sanitise your hands at the sanitiser stations provided. Bookings are essential.

How do I get to the State Library by public transport?

The 'State Library, Art Gallery, Museum' tram-stop is just outside the State Library. There are bus stops close by near the War Memorial on North Terrace. The closest train station is the Adelaide city station on North Terrace.

You can plan your journey via Adelaide Metro.

Is there car parking near the State Library?

The nearest car park is Wilson's Adelaide Central car park, 225 North Terrace, next to David Jones.

There is paid metered street parking along Kintore Ave and Victoria Drive.

Where is the wheelchair and stroller access?

Access to the Spence Wing first floor and the Mortlock Chamber is via the lift in the glass foyer entrance of the library.

There is on-street disabled parking available in the nearby roads. View more information and maps of Adelaide City Council's Disability parking for permit holders.

How do I check if the Mortlock Chamber is open when I plan to visit?

You can visit the Mortlock Chamber on the ground floor to look at the exhibition bays.  The upper levels of the Mortlock Wing include quiet study areas.

Is there a cafe at the State Library?

Yes, the State Library Cafe by St Raphaels located on the ground floor in the glass foyer.

What is Eventbrite?

At the State Library we use Eventbrite for our event and program registrations. When you register for an event or program, you will be asked to provide your name and email address. Eventbrite will then prompt you to create a password so that you can manage your bookings. For information about what happens to your contact details please view our privacy statement.

How do I book into an event, tour or program?

Find the event, tour or program you would like to book. On the page about the event, tour or program you will notice a yellow button called 'Book now' as well as registration cart on the page. 

Choose the number of tickets you need then follow the prompts by filling in your details. We use Eventbrite at the State Library for our event and education programs.

I can’t attend the event, how do I cancel my registration?

You will need to cancel your registration via Eventbrite by logging in to your account.
