About the presenter

Carolyn Spooner, Curator and Content Librarian

Through the State Library collections we put some flesh on the bones of the early life of Ross Smith in South Australia, such as his workplace Harris Scarfe and his sporting interests.

Our slideshow also takes us beyond the walls of the State Library to see the impact of his tragic loss on Adelaide and the story behind his statue at Adelaide Oval.
