Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of a digital visit?

All State Library Digital Visits are provided to participants free of charge.

What pre-visit information will we receive?

A confirmation email will be sent from Eventbrite to the person that booked the Digital Visit.

This email will point to Information for the Educator and the Information for the Supporting Adults and Pre-Visit information/ learning on the Description page of the relevant program on the website.
The booking contact person is required to distribute appropriately to all the attending teachers and adults.

All pre-visit information can be found within the corresponding Education program on this website.

A calendar meeting invitation will also be sent to the contact person and teachers listed, closer to the date, with Pre-Visit information attached.

What technology is required for a digital visit?

The SA Government’s recommended online platform is Microsoft Teams. You will be emailed a link that enables your Digital Visit to be opened in the MS Teams app or in a web browser.

Participants will require internet access, a web camera, microphone and speakers.

Information, Communications and Technology (ICT)  protocols will be highlighted with all participants at the start of the Digital Visit to ensure safety, access and participation is managed effectively.

Please email us prior to your Digital Visit if you have additional questions regarding ICT requirements.

What do I need to do before the Digital Visit?

Check the Program page on the State Library website and follow information for Pre-Visit learning.

View the short pre-visit Welcome Video with all participants prior to the Digital Visit.
This is designed to:

  • build positive relationships
  • provide background information about the role of the State Library of South Australia.

If there is one provided, print Information for Supporting Adults letter to share with adults that may be assisting.

Organise learners into groups if specified in the pre-visit information.

Organise or print any specified resources necessary for the Digital Visit.

For research related programs we recommend that students Join the State Library and receive a library card if specified in the pre-visit information and request that the card be mailed to their private email address (not their school address) and have it mailed to them prior to the Digital Visit (this may take up to 5 days).

What should I do if the videos on the website don't work?

The issue with MS Edge and YouTube video playback is a known issue which Microsoft is supposedly working on.

Meanwhile:

- Enable Edge Flag "WebRTC Min/Max Video Encode Accelerator dimensions" (it was on Default).
- Disable "Use hardware acceleration when available" from System.
- Switched the Flag back to default.

We suggest you check that your browser is up to date and supported by YouTube > https://www.youtube.com/supported_browsers

OR –  use a different browser. We recommend using Google, Chrome or Safari.

Are there tips for accessing the State Library for research?

Discuss research topics with your students and the types of credible resources that might be relevant.

Students may wish to access research tips for students.

Involve the school librarian in your students' research projects.

Join the State Library and receive a library card to access e-Resources from home.

Check the Additional Information tab on the website page of the program you are going to attend to find More To Explore links, tips and suggestions.

How much does using a Digital Resource cost?

All Digital Resources are provided free by the State Library of South Australia and are available for download on the website.
You are responsible for providing the tools and materials for your activities.

How do I know what to do with or how to use the Digital Resources?

We have provided a Guide for each of the Digital Resources which gives ideas for exploring the concepts and using the tools.

Do I need to use all the resources?

The resources have been provided as a tool for you in the exploration of the concepts. You are welcome to use those you see as most closely aligning with your teaching plan.

We would ask that you complete the surveys attached to the Digital Resource you use, to tell us what you found useful. This will enable us to develop the resources further.

Is there someone I can speak to about the resources if I need assistance?

For any questions regarding the resources, please reach out to the Community Learning Team.
