State Library of South Australia

We are on the world stage

Did you know that your State Library is a 'must do' on the international and interstate tourism trail? For example, people from the UK, South Korea and Brisbane joined us on Friday for one of our free weekday tours. A couple from the United States, who had heard about our magnificent Mortlock Chamber when it was voted one of the 20 most beautiful libraries in the world, called in on the same afternoon to have a look around and were delighted to be taken
on a personal tour of the building.

Another two people from Brisbane who were here for a conference thought they would explore North Terrace, found themselves in the Library, and after being hosted for a leisurely hour of wandering through our heritage buildings, state of the art reference library, and browsing our exhibitions, said that they were blown away by the friendliness of our guides - that they will definitely return! On a previous afternoon visitors from Canberra, the UK, the US, Brisbane, China, Sweden and Belgium, enjoyed their time under the friendly wing of our guides, being enthralled by how much there is to see at the State Library, with all saying that they were fascinated by our collections.

These tourists had travelled a long way to be blown away - to be fascinated - and to want to return to your State Library - an international draw card situated right in your own backyard. We invite you to take some time out to discover what makes the Library the place to be and look forward to showing you around next time you are in the city.
