Director’s cut

Date: 16 December 2015

I wish to thank every one of our readers for your interest in and support of the State Library throughout the last year. We exist to care for the memories of and to provide services to the people of South Australia. It gives all of us at the Library great heart to know that so many of you visit us both here on North Terrace and online.

Story Wall at the State Library of South Australia – A trunk full of books

As always this issue is a showcase of the extraordinary diversity of both our collections and community engagement. To use a suitably literary reference, like Shakespeare's Cleopatra, our infinite variety never cloys and never grows stale. The breadth and sheer richness of our collections, tended by the wonderful skills and expertise of our staff, are amongst the greatest treasures of our state. For 181 years we have cared for them on your behalf and we will continue to do so for many more years to come.

May I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous and happy New Year. We have many fascinating things planned for you throughout 2016 at the State Library and I will look forward to sharing them with you as the year unfolds.

Alan Smith
