Open Hours
State Library opening hours and details of the Library Cafe and resident organisations.
Please note that we are closed on public holidays.
Festive season open hours
During the festive season the State Library's Mortlock Wing (excluding the Research Library) will open early at 10am on the weekends starting Sunday 23 November to Sunday 21 December.
Please be advised that the State Library will be closed:
- Thursday 25 December
- Friday 26 December
- Thursday 1 January
State Library Cafe will be closed from Sunday 21 December and reopening Monday 5 January 2026.

Venue closures
The State Library occasionally hosts or stages events, which sees some areas closed from time to time. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
The Mortlock Chamber will be unavailable at 5 to 7pm on Tuesday 2, Tuesday 9 and Tuesday 16 December.

National Archives of Australia
National Archives staff are available to help you begin your research into their collections and provide assistance with ordering records to view in the Somerville Reading Room. The NAA reference desk in the Somerville Reading Room is open to the public.
