The State Library buzzed with excitement on Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 3 September, as eager book lovers explored our pop-up bookstall.
We are happy to announce that the total amount raised from our Great Book Swap was $1,300.
A big thank you to all those people who visited the Library and swapped a book for a donation to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Your kindness and generosity will truly make a difference to children and families living in remote Australian communities.
We could not have done this without the generous book donations from staff and volunteers of the Adelaide Botanic Garden, Artlab, Art Gallery of South Australia, and State Library.
We were thrilled to have Raising Literacy be part of the day with a table filled with their amazing titles on offer as part of the event.
Access to books in remote communities is challenging, and the efforts of all those involved on the day will help the Indigenous Literacy Foundation gift new, culturally relevant books to children in remote communities across the country.
Thanks to your support, more children will now have access to the joy of reading, and the power of stories that reflect their culture and experiences.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
