Research Library reopening, with City Libraries - North Terrace

The State Library’s Research Library will reopen on Wednesday 1 July 2026, following a temporary closure for upgrade works. 

We’re also pleased to welcome the City of Adelaide’s City Libraries – North Terrace, opening on Wednesday 1 July in its new home at the State Library. Both services will be co-located on Level 1 of the State Library’s Spence Wing, creating a shared space for research, learning and community use. 

We look forward to welcoming visitors back to a refreshed space with a redesigned layout. While some upgrade works will continue over the coming weeks, we have reopened these important services as soon as possible to support our communities.  

What’s happening? 

Transition period: Sunday 28 to Tuesday 30 June 

• The temporary Reading Room is closed 
• In-person research services and collection access are unavailable 
• Online support remains available via Ask Us 
• Phone support is available during opening hours 

Reopening: from Wednesday 1 July 

• Research Library reopens 
• City Libraries – North Terrace opens 
• New opening hours come into effect
